AccorHotels will unveil its first Indigenous-inspired ibis hotel in Australia on 2 June.

Launched to coincide with National Reconciliation Week 2016, the hotel will be located at Sydney Olympic Park. It has been designed in partnership with Balarinji, an Indigenous-owned creative agency which has previously designed aircraft liveries for Qantas, and created by Sydney-based artist Shannon Foster.

Titled “Wanne Gurad”, Ms Foster’s work is said to represent the spirit of the Rainbow Serpent and the course of the Parramatta River.

“Reconciliation and supporting Indigenous Australia is part of the way we do business. Our goal is to create a more culturally connected organisation to enable authentic storytelling throughout our hotels leading to more engaging experiences for our guests,” explained AccorHotels’ chief operating officer for the Pacific, Simon McGrath.

“We are proud to work with long-standing partner Balarinji and artist Shannon Foster to unveil the first Indigenous-inspired ibis hotel in Australia. This project forms part of our wider commitment to reconciliation, creating more Indigenous employment opportunities and supporting local community and business groups.”

McGrath and Ms Foster will be joined by Balarinji chairman and football legend John Moriarty to introduce the new indigenous artwork at the ibis Sydney Olympic Park on Thursday.
