Japan Airlines (JAL) will double its operations on the Tokyo Narita-New York JFK route next year, with an extra daily flight using its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.

Effective 30 March 2014, the airline will increase the frequency of the route from one to two daily flights, with the launch of a new evening departure from Narita.

Operated using the 186-seat Dreamliner aircraft, the new flight will depart the Japanese capital at 1945 each day, arriving in New York at 2000. The return service will leave JFK airport at 0930, getting back into Tokyo at 1240 the following day.

JAL said the second daily flight would “provide customers with more travel options and convenience”, as well as offering a greater number of connections to South America. It will also increase the number of same-day connections for American travellers flying to Asia, from six to 12 cities.

JAL currently operates daily flights on the Narita-JFK route, departing every day at 1110 aboard a B777-300ER aircraft.
