JAL posts billion-dollar H1 profit
Japan Airlines (JAL) has posted a net profit of more than a billion dollars for the first half of its financial year.
In results released on Friday the airline revealed that its net profit for the April-September 2012 period totalled JPY99.7 billion (US$1.24bn) – 2.4% more than the same period last year. The result was achieved following a 10.2% jump in international passenger revenue, which totalled JPY210.3bn. Domestic revenue climbed at a slower rate of 2.9% to JPY250.4bn.
As a result JAL has now upped its full-year profit forecast from JPY130bn to JPY140bn. If achieved, this net income of around US$1.7bn would make one of the world’s most profitable airlines, just three years after it filed for bankruptcy protection.
JAL said it achieved the result by “rigorously increasing employees’ profit consciousness”.
