Jet Airways has announced plans to offer a new in-flight entertainment (IFE) service, enabling passengers to stream content directly to their own electronic devices.

The Indian carrier has teamed up with Global Eagle Entertainment Inc to offer a collection of movies, TV programmes, music, games, and children’s programmes, which can be accessed by passengers on their smartphones, tablets and laptops.

The streaming service will be introduced on the airline’s fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft in the second quarter of 2016. This will be followed by the roll out of full in-flight connectivity, including Wi-Fi and messaging services, at a later date.

“Jet Airways has constantly innovated to adopt new age technologies to enhance the guest experience. This best-in-class, customer-focused initiative will provide superior entertainment and communication options to guests and we are confident it will set new benchmarks by delivering high quality, global entertainment content to guests’ personal devices,” said Gaurang Shetty, Jet’s senior vice president of commercial.

The new IFE streaming system will offer HD content, including a range of Indian and international programmes. The service will also include a 3D flight tracker and destination information.
