Jet2.com charter offers passengers top vantage of solar eclipse

Fifty-seven lucky passengers were able to see last week’s total solar eclipse from one of the best viewpoints in the world, the sky, thanks to a one-off Jet2.com flight chartered by Omega Holidays.
The flight, one of a handful of special charters, set off from Glasgow Airport at 7.30am and flew north of the Faroe Islands reaching a height of 38,000ft so people got a clear, cloud-free view of the rare phenomenon.
This will be the last total eclipse in Northern Europe until 2026, and on board the Jet2.com flight passengers each had their own row of seats to ensure the best view possible. Renowned astronomer, Lee Sproats accompanied the flight, offering a commentary, and special glasses were provided to allow passengers to safely watch the eclipse, which lasted over two hours from start to finish.
Jet2.com pilot captain Christopher Pollock said: “I can honestly say that was one of the most amazing flights of my life.”
