Jetstar Asia is expanding its operations in Indonesia with the launch of flights to two new destinations: Palembang and Pekanbaru.
The inaugural Singapore-Palembang flight departed on Thursday and Jetstar will now operate three weekly flights to the South Sumatran city, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
And on 10 December, the low-cost carrier will launch another new Indonesian route, to Pekanbaru, in the Sumatran province of Riau. This service will also run three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays), direct from Singapore.
Both new routes will be operated using Jetstar’s all-economy class Airbus A320 aircraft.
“The Indonesian government has been most supportive for us to bring the service to the city and to offer Palembang travellers an affordable option for international travel to Singapore,” said Jetstar Asia CEO Bara Pasupathi, on the launch of the Palembang route. “From today, families on both sides of the Straits of Malacca can get to see each other throughout the year and not just for the holidays anymore.”
Following the launch of the two new routes, the Jetstar Group will operate up to 125 weekly flights to the Indonesian destinations of Jakarta, Medan, Surabaya, Palembang, Pekanbaru and Bali.
