Jetstar Asia has introduced a new service allowing passengers to bypass the check-in desk.

The new ‘Straight to Gate’ concept will enable the low-cost carrier’s passengers to check-in online, print their boarding pass and proceed straight to immigration and the departure gate.

Trials commenced on 6 November 2013 at Jetstar Asia’s home base at Singapore Changi Airport. The service is available for passengers on selected routes with no check-in baggage or visa requirements.

Customers with checked baggage or those who require visa verification will still need to visit the standard check-in counters to get their boarding passes endorsed.

“We are committed to understanding the needs and wants of our customers and we constantly explore smarter ways to add value to where it matters most,” said Jetstar Asia’s CEO, Barathan Pasupathi.

“In addition to offering the ‘Straight to Gate’ service, Jetstar is also pleased to relocate to new counters at Changi Airport’s Terminal 1 departure hall, where informative signage await customers who require check-in assistance from our ground agents.”

Jetstar said the new service was launched in response to a study which found that Singapore residents spend one hour queuing on average every day, which amounts to 2.9 years spent in queues during the average lifetime.
