Jetstar will launch flights connecting Bali with the North Queensland city of Townsville today.
This will mark the first service between these two destinations, and the first international flight from Townsville Airport since 2011. The inaugural flight will start this evening, which Jetstar says is “at full capacity”.
“We know Bali is one of the most popular holiday spots in Asia and we’re delighted to bring a direct low fares link to the people of Townsville,” said David Hall, CEO of Jetstar Australia & New Zealand.
“There’s no doubt this direct service, with a flight time under five hours, will be a lot more attractive for local travellers than having to fly south to connect on to Bali services from Brisbane or Sydney.
“As the largest city in North Queensland with a population close to 200,000, we’re confident Townsville will continue to support our Bali services and ensure they’re sustainable year-round.”
Townsville Airport’s chief operating officer, Kevin Gill said he said been “lobbying [for direct international flights] for some time”. “It’s great to see that hard work pay off,” Gill added.
The new flights will depart Townsville three times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays) at 2255 and arrive in Bali at 0130 the following day. Return services will depart Bali at 0230 every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, arriving back to Townsville at 0915.
