Jetstar passengers in Hong Kong will now be offered the chance to proceed straight to the gate if they check-in online and are not carrying any checked-in baggage.
The new ‘Straight to Gate’ service means that passengers without visa requirements or checked baggage can print their boarding passes at home, then proceed straight to the security check, without needing to visit a check-in kiosk or counter.
“’Straight-to-Gate’ will eliminate the hassle of queuing and give our customers the convenience of checking in at home or at the office,” said Jetstar Asia’s CEO, Barathan Pasupathi.
“For our operations, Straight-to-Gate means our team can continue to focus more on serving our customers with checked bags and special needs, fast-tracking the check-in process during busy holiday periods.
“With up to 45% of passengers travelling with carry-on baggage only today, a large proportion of our travellers will have the opportunity to use Straight-to-Gate,” Pasupathi added.
Jetstar launched the Straight-to-Gate service at Singapore’s Changi Airport in November last year, and the airline estimates that the service could be used by up to 45,000 passengers per year in Hong Kong.
