The Jetstar Group has added seven new interline partners from Asia, Europe and North America it has announced.

The company now offers the customers of China Eastern, China Southern, Delta, Malaysia Airlines, El Al, Swiss and Turkish Airlines the option to book a segment of their journey with one of Jetstar’s airlines.

The company currently has subsidiaries in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Pacific (Vietnam) and Japan. There will also be an airline located in Hong Kong from 2013.

The new agreements will take the amount of interline partners up to 31 and will supplement the company’s codeshare partners: Qantas, Japan Airlines, American Airlines and Myanmar Airways.

Jetstar Group chief commercial officer David Koczkar said interline partners were an important part of building the group’s regional footprint.

“Our growing short-haul networks out of Singapore and within Japan and Vietnam provide some very attractive itineraries for global carriers to offer their customers,” he said.

“Through these new agreements, we are now able to connect passengers from places like Zurich to destinations like Phuket and Bali and travellers from Shanghai to Darwin and Perth via Singapore.”

The company has also benefited from the decision by Qantas to retime its service from Australia to Singapore, meaning more Australian passengers will use Jetstar to fly on to their southeast Asia destination.

“Since 2013, we have seen a three-fold increase in the number of passengers booking on Qantas through Singapore to places like Phuket, Penang and Bangkok with Jetstar Asia with convenient same day connections,” he said.

“When we grow our short haul flights from Singapore and from and within Japan and Vietnam – we open up more and more convenient connections for long haul travellers.”

Last month we reported that Jetstar had moved to its new hub in Hainan, China.
