Korean Air has taken delivery of its 10th Airbus A380 aircraft.
The new double-decker jet joined the national carrier’s fleet on 29 July 2014 and will now undergo tests before entering service on the Seoul-Atlanta route on 3 August.
Like all Korean Air’s A380s, the new aircraft comes fitted with a low-density layout offering just 407 seats in three classes. This gives it the fewest number of seats of any A380 operating in the world today.
Marketed by Korean Air as a “hotel in the sky”, the aircraft features an entire top deck of 94 flat-bed business class seats, plus 301 economy class seats and 12 luxury first class suites on the lower deck. The jet also features bars and a duty free shopping area.
Korean Air welcomed its first A380 in June 2011 and the delivery of the 10th finalises its order with Airbus. The aircraft are deployed on routes to the US and Europe, with Korean Air currently operating twice daily A380 flights to both Los Angeles and New York and daily flights to Paris.
The ninth A380 was delivered in late June 2014 and was deployed on the Atlanta route. The arrival of the 10th aircraft will now enable Korean to expand its Seoul-Atlanta A380 service.
As well as the A380s, Korean Air has outstanding orders for new Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental, Boeing 777-300ER and Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, as it renews and expands its long-haul fleet.
