LAN and TAM Airlines have completed the move to become one group under the LATAM name.

The consolidation follows shareholders’ approval and will now lead to the group expanding its network into South America. Both airlines will continue to operate as normal form their current headquarters, with its combined network covering 150 destinations in 22 countries.

“The creation of this group of airlines is an opportunity to take South America to the world and to allow us to position ourselves to operate in an increasingly competitive environment due to the continuing consolidation of the global airline industry,” said Enrique Cueto, executive vice president-CEO of LATAM Airlines Group. TAM’s current vice chairman Mauricio Rolim Amaro has become chairman of LATAM, with several other vice presidents and senior staff moving onto the LATAM board.
