Holidaymakers will find it tougher to find last minute deals for this year’s Christmas period, Travel Counsellors has said.
Based on its own booking sales the homeworking company said it will be “increasingly difficult” for clients to secure last minute deals with scheduled flights after seeing early bookings soar 57% for the period this year compared to the same two months in 2011.
There has also been a shift to booking short-haul beach destinations, with Tenerife currently its best seller for Christmas ahead of the usual Caribbean and New York favourites.
“Customers are booking further in advance, for more affordable, closer destinations. It is possible that due to uncertainties in the economy, customers are finding destinations such a Tenerife, far more appealing to their tight budgets,” said Steve Byrne, managing director at Travel Counsellors.
