The Latin American Travel Association (LATA) has welcomed the news that LATA member British Airways is to introduce new direct flights from London Gatwick to Peru and from Gatwick to Costa Rica. Both services will commence on 4 May 2016.
LATA chairman Byron Shirto said: “LATA is thrilled with the news that British Airways is introducing direct flights to Peru and Costa Rica from the UK – this is additional evidence of the growth and popularity of the Latin America region as a tourism destination.
”A recent survey of LATA members in June 2015 revealed Costa Rica seeing the biggest increase in holiday enquiries, while Peru remains one of the top destinations for first time travellers to Latin America. The Lima flight will make travelling to the iconic Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail much easier and Lima is also a convenient gateway to many other South American destinations. Costa Rica has become very popular due to its national parks and biological reserves, home to vast array of fauna and flora, whilst both Pacific and Caribbean beaches provide a stunning backdrop.
“We warmly welcome any development to increase and improve accessibility to the many and contrasting attractions of Latin America.”
