Four and five-star hotels in London have more than halved their prices during the Olympics, according to an inbound wholesaler.
UK-based JacTravel said rates have dropped from an average £3000-£400 a night to around £160-£165. Some two-star properties have also reduced rates by as much as 75%, with some of Jac’s trade rates at £50 a night.
“I welcome all efforts by hoteliers to attract visitors during the Games and would even encourage further action. Hotel prices during the Olympics are now at the kind of levels we expect during events such as Wimbledon or the Chelsea Flower Show,” said Angela Skelly, director at JacTravel.
With the Olympics now 18 days away, Heathrow has continued its preparations as it gears up to handle 39% more passengers than usual. Its busiest days are set to be 13, 14 and 15 August with departing passengers up from 90,000 to 125,000.
