MAS adds Yangon, Auckland flights

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is continuing its Asia Pacific expansion with the launch of extra flights to two more destinations, Auckland and Yangon.
From 1 August 2013, the national carrier will mount an extra four weekly flights (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) from Kuala Lumpur to Yangon, taking the total frequency to two flights per day.
Then from 23 November, the airline will add one extra Sunday flight to its existing six weekly services to Auckland, completing a daily service on the route.
Meanwhile, MAS has also expanded in China following the start of a new codeshare agreement with Xiamen Airlines. The KL-based carrier has agreed to place its ‘MH’ code on Xiamen Airlines’ flights to Fuzhou and Xiamen.
“The codeshare with Xiamen Airlines is part of our strategy to develop commercial cooperation with key airlines of the world to expand our network offering,” said MAS’ group CEO, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya.
“The codeshare is also part of Malaysia Airlines’ initiatives towards enhancing air connectivity with key priority markets overseas to increase tourist arrivals into Malaysia,” he added.
Since cutting several routes in early 2012 under a severe cost-cutting strategy, MAS has been gradually boosting operations across the Asia Pacific region. This has included the launch of new flights to Kathmandu and Kochi, the resumption of flights to Dubai and Darwin, and additional frequencies to Phuket and Bali.
