Butlin’s has announced Microsoft is the newest activity partner for its Astonishing Family Science Weekends in 2016.   Butlins-Science

Following the success of the 2015 breaks, Microsoft approached Butlin’s to discuss involvement and has since signed up to provide workshops and master classes at the three events this year.

The partnership supports the brands’ shared goal to engage and inspire the next generation of scientists, and equip them with the skills required to thrive in a digital world.

The Microsoft workshops will teach children and their parents how to design, create and play a computer game in under 60 minutes and programme a BBC micro:bit to open the door to an amazing world of technological creativity.

Dave Coplin, chief envisioning officer at Microsoft said of the company’s involvement: “At Microsoft, we’re committed to helping people of all ages learn the fundamentals of computing while engaging in fun projects to create incredible results. We believe that computers and coding should become a literacy much like mathematics is today, and as such should be used broadly as a foundation across many other disciplines. Therefore, we’re delighted to be able to work with Butlin’s as part of their Astonishing Family Science Weekends to bring a love and understanding of computing that will empower the next generation to use technology to do amazing things that will help them and those around them achieve more in everything they do.”

The tech giant joins an impressive list of science experts who each provide workshops on the breaks including The Science Museum, The National Space Centre, Aardman Animations and L’Oréal. The Astonishing Family Science Weekends will take place on April 15th at Butlin’s Bognor Regis, June 10th at Butlin’s Skegness and September 16that Butlin’s Minehead.

A three-night break at Butlin’s Bognor Regis resort costs from just £65 per person.  This price is based on up to 4 people sharing a Silver Apartment arriving on 15 April.
