The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) will postpone the bidding process for handing over the operations and
maintenance of six airports to private players by a month.
Earlier scheduled to take place last month, the bidding process will now be conducted after 15 January 2014, reported the Times of India. In 2013, the MoCA had decided to privatise six airports of Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Guwahati.
According to officials, there are several issues which are yet to be sorted out. “The companies interested in taking over Lucknow and Kolkata airports want some more time. As a result, the deadline for receiving RFQ (Request For Qualification) documents has been postponed to 15 January for all the six airports,” said an official of the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
K N Shrivastava, Secretary for MoCA retired on 31 December, where as Ashok Lavasa has just taken over as Aviation Secretary. This may delay the process further. “The Central government wanted to complete the process before the Lok Sabha elections but now it seems it will take more time,” said a senior AAI official.
