New York is to get its own ferris wheel attraction next to a retail complex and hotels on Staten Island.
The New York Wheel aims to be the largest in the world at 625 feet tall, 84 feet higher than the Singapore Flyer, and is set to see 30,000 riders per day during peak times.
“Our administration has made major investments all along the North Shore of Staten Island, because we know this area is full of potential for economic growth,” said Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. “But this newest plan is the most exciting of all. The New York Wheel will be an attraction unlike any other in New York City.”
Construction on the wheel is set to begin in early 2014 with a grand opening pipelined for the end of 2015.
Its construction team will include some of those that built the London Eye.
