Oman Air’s inaugural flight to Jakarta took off for the first time on Friday, marking the completion of a period of rapid expansion for the airline in Southeast Asia.
The new Muscat-Jakarta route commenced on 12 December – just 10 days after Oman Air launched its first flights to Manila. And this Philippine service has also now been upgraded from the initial two flights a week to three, with the addition of a new Saturday service on 13 December.
In total, Oman Air now operates 18 weekly flights to four Southeast Asian cities – Bangkok (daily), Kuala Lumpur (five per week), Manila (three per week) and Jakarta (three per week). A fourth weekly flight to Jakarta will be added on 2 January 2015.
“We are delighted to now offer air travellers the opportunity to fly with Oman Air to Jakarta. Not only is this an exciting and vibrant city, but it also provides a centre from which to explore… Indonesia,” said Oman Air’s chief operating officer, Abdulrahman Al Busaidy.
“I am sure that the service will meet strong demand from both leisure and business travellers and we have already accepted a high level of bookings. In addition, the timing of the launch enables us to help reunite families and friends as they come together over the winter holiday period.”
Oman Air’s Jakarta service will initially operate every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, with a Monday flight being added from next month. Services will depart Muscat at 0245 and arrive in Jakarta at 1350. On the return leg, services will leave the Indonesian capital at 1550 and arrive back into Muscat at 2055.
All flights will be operated using Oman Air’s new Airbus A330-300 aircraft offering flat-bed seats in business class seats and Wi-Fi throughout.
Oman Air expects is planning to further expand its long-haul operations next year. The airline will take delivery of three more Airbus A330s and six Boeing B787 Dreamliners, which it said would “enable further expansion of the carrier’s network, as well as increased frequencies on some of its existing routes.”
