Orient-Express will commence cruises onboard its Orcaella ship this week.
The luxury hospitality group will sail the vessel in Myanmar on an inaugural 11-night cruise along the Chindwin River.
Orcaella is a traditional Irrawaddy Flotilla ship with 25 cabins and suites that have floor-to-ceiling glass doors and balconies.
It will operate between January to April and July to December on seven- and 11-night itineraries departing from Mandalay, Yangon and Bagan.
Gary Franklin, managing director at Orient-Express Trains & Cruises said the launch had showed the company’s commitment to Myanmar and Asia.
“Orient-Express Hotels Ltd. was one of the early tourism pioneers in Myanmar. We have been operating river cruises on board Road To Mandalay for the past 18 years and offering hotel accommodation at The Governor’s Residence, a 48-key colonial-style hotel in Yangon. We’ve seen a dramatic increase in demand for river cruises in Myanmar and so now feel this is the right time to increase the diversity of experiences we can offer our guests. Orcaella launches this week and will complement the river cruising itineraries offered on board Road To Mandalay as well as introduce new journeys,” he explained.
