Pentahotels, the midscale lifestyle hotel brand, has signed its first ever property in Thailand, as it embarks on a major expansion in Southeast Asia.
Following an agreement with the Nest Property Company, Pentahotel Bangkok Ploenchit will open in central Bangkok in 2020. The company said this marks “the first official step in Pentahotels’ expansion in Southeast Asia”.
As a new-build property, the Bangkok hotel will feature all of Pentahotels’ brand standard facilities and design concepts, including a “Pentalounge”, the lobby area that features a bar and social spaces. Other Pentahotels feature games rooms with table football and pool tables, plus computer stations. The Bangkok hotel will also feature 157 rooms, a swimming pool and gym.
“The announcement of Pentahotel Bangkok is an important milestone for our brand, marking our entry into the Thailand market and expansion into Southeast Asia,” said Sonia Cheng, CEO of Rosewood Hotel Group, Pentahotels’ parent company. “The pentahotels brand concept offers an entirely new hotel experience to guests, which has seen tremendous success in Europe and Asia.
“In Bangkok, we have chosen the Lumpini location for its international business appeal and vibrant local and expatriate scenes, and we are confident that this new location will pave the way for our successful operations in Thailand,” she added.
Pentahotels currently operates 24 hotels in Europe, reflecting its original German heritage, and three properties in Asia, located in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing. A second Hong Kong hotel, located in the New Territories, is scheduled to open this summer.
The expansion of Pentahotels in Southeast Asia reflects the strategy of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, its luxury sister brand. Six new Rosewoods are due to launch in four Southeast Asian countries – Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam – over the next few years, along with the first Rosewood hotel in Hong Kong.
