Plastic usage to be banned within 100-metre radius of protected monuments

Speaking at the inaugural of the Paryatan Parv, a week-long celebration of tourism to sensitise people about the value of tourism at the India Gate lawns in Delhi, Prahlad Singh Patel, union minister for tourism said that usage of single-use plastic will be banned in the 100 metre radius of all protected  monuments in the country. 

He said usage of single use plastic will be eradicated in a phased manner from the all the departments and agencies associated with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

Paryatan Parv aims to propagate the message of ‘Dekho Apna Desh’, with the objective to encourage Indians to visit various tourist destinations of the country and also to spread the message of ‘Tourism for All’. The event has 31 stalls of central government ministries as well as from states and union territories.

Patel said the government is quite confident that it will be able to achieve the targeted growth of doubling the tourist numbers as well as revenue well before 2022 deadline set.
