Qantas has started to ramp up its pilot recruitment ahead of the arrival of its new fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
The airline’s first new long-haul jets are due to be delivered in 2017, and Qantas intends to hire around 170 additional pilots by the end of 2019.
This marks the first time since 2009 that the national carrier has recruited new pilots.
Since applications opened in early October, more than 500 pilots from Australia and overseas have applied. Qantas’ low-cost subsidiary Jetstar is also recruiting for its B787 and Airbus fleets.
