Qantas has unveiled plans to launch a new service to Hamilton Island, which forms part of the Whitsunday Islands in the Great Barrier Reef.
Starting on 28 November 2014, regional subsidiary QantasLink will launch a new route direct from Brisbane to Hamilton Island. Flights will operate four times a week, on Fridays to Mondays, using a 74-seat Bombardier Q400 aircraft.
“This is great news for our customers, especially in the lead up to the summer months when we know people are planning holidays,” said QantasLink’s CEO, John Gissing. “This is also great news for tourism and The Whitsunday’s 74 tropical islands, including the renowned Hamilton Island and the ultra-luxury One&Only Hayman Island.
“Hamilton Island, and the wider Whitsunday region, is a fantastic holiday destination and we’re very excited to be giving our customers a direct premium service from Brisbane.”
The launch follows the start of Qantas’ Sydney-Hamilton Island flights earlier this year. The Qantas Group now offers 40 return services a week to Hamilton Island from Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Cairns.
