Qantas has flown the cast of the US comedy series ‘Modern Family’ to Australia, to film a special episode Down Under.
An Airbus A380 aircraft, renamed the ‘Modern Family Flyer’ for the occasion, touched down at Sydney Airport this morning (18 February 2014), carrying the cast. They will now spend several weeks filming the special ‘Australian Vacation’ episode, which will be shot across a range of the country’s most famous locations. More than 25 million Americans are expected to watch the special episode.
“As the national carrier, Qantas is proud to be part of an opportunity to showcase Australia’s uniqueness as a destination on a global stage,” said Qantas CEO Alan Joyce. “This exposure will no doubt make Australia top of mind for Americans and other potential visitors, looking to plan their own family vacation.”
The move will mark the first time Modern Family has been filmed outside the US. But it follows a series of similar initiatives by Qantas, which has also helped to bring the Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah Winfrey shows to Australia in recent years.
