Qantas completes B767 upgrade
Qantas completed a programme of interior upgrades on its domestic fleet of Boeing 767 aircraft.
The AU$20 million (US$19.5m) project has seen the refurbishment of all 15 of the airline’s domestic B767s, with new leather seats in business class, iPads equipped with in-flight entertainment content in all cabins, plus new carpets, lighting, curtains and dividers.
The revamped aircraft will be deployed on a series of key domestic routes to Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Darwin, Canberra, Adelaide and Cairns. One upgraded B767 will also operate on flights to Hawaii.
“Passengers travelling on Qantas’ fleet of Boeing 767 aircraft can enjoy updated cabin interiors and in-flight entertainment streamed direct to iPads in every seat,” said Qantas Domestic’s CEO, Lyell Strambi.
“We have partnered with Panasonic to provide over 200 hours of on-demand in-flight entertainment content across business and economy… [and] plan to increase this content even further to up to 350 hours by the end of the year, giving customers 20 movies, 350 TV programs and a wide selection of music to choose from.”
Five of the airline’s B767s have not been upgraded and these will be retired by the end of the year. Eventually, Qantas will replace all its domestic B767s with Airbus A330 aircraft, in a process that is expected to be completed by mid-2015. Qantas will take delivery of its 20th A330 later this month.
