Qantas will increase its services to Queenstown this year, to cope for increased traffic during Australia’s Easter holidays and New Zealand’s ski season.
The airline currently operates three weekly flights between Sydney and Queenstown, in New Zealand’s South Island. But it will increase this to five weekly flights between 7 April and 2 May 2014, before boosting the route to daily from 4 July to 24 October.
“Qantas will add more than 650 seats each week and the additional services will mean greater flexibility and a premium experience for our customers travelling to Queenstown during the ski season,” said the CEO of Qantas International, Simon Hickey.
“Our seasonal services reflect the continued popularity of the surrounding ski fields and will represent a boost to the New Zealand tourism industry, particularly as Emirates will codeshare on all the existing and additional services.”
The additional services will be operated by Qantas’ fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The airline will also continue to operate its seasonal weekly Brisbane-Queenstown service from 28 June to 27 September.
