Qantas will open a new lounge at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) next year.

The new Los Angeles Business Lounge will be jointly-owned by Qantas and its oneworld alliance partners, Cathay Pacific and British Airways, with Qantas being the managing airline.

The lounge will be more than double the size of the airline’s current LAX lounge, offering almost 600 seats. It will also include a wine bar, open kitchen and communal fire place, while a new ‘sleep service’ will provide passengers with mattresses and duvets.

“This multi-million dollar investment in our Business Lounge delivers on our promise to continually set the benchmark for premium travel and maintain our position as the airline of choice for Americans travelling to Australia,” said Qantas International’s CEO, Simon Hickey.

“We have invested heavily in the US in recent years offering double daily services from Los Angeles to Australia with our flagship A380 aircraft and new luxurious interiors on our Boeing 747s from Dallas and New York.”

The Los Angeles Business Lounge will open in phases from April 2014, with the final phase due for completion in the second half of 2014.
