Qantas has revealed that it will refurbish its entire fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft, including the installation of wireless new in-flight entertainment.
The multi-million dollar investment will include upgrades to the interiors of 67 B737s that operate on the Qantas domestic network. This will include new a wireless IFE service that allows guests to stream movies, TV shows, music and other content direct to their personal electronic devices.
“We are investing in further improvements to the interiors of our Boeing 737-800 aircraft to improve the in-flight experience for our customers and provide more consistent access to on demand entertainment,” said Qantas Domestic’s CEO, Lyell Strambi.
“In addition to refreshing the look and feel of the cabin and improving seat comfort, some aircraft will also have improvements to in-flight entertainment for customers.”
Twenty-nine of the airline’s B737-800s already have seat-back IFE, so the remaining 38 aircraft will be equipped with the streaming service.
An additional six seats will also be added to the rear of each aircraft, made possible by changes to the galley and lavatory space.
Work is expected to commence in mid-2015 and be completed within 12 months.
