Quark completes North Pole hot air balloon ride

Quark Expeditions has successfully completed the first ever passenger hot air balloon on an expedition to the North Pole.
More than 50 guests aboard ‘50 Years of Victory’ last week took the hot air balloon ride on its North Pole voyage said Hans Lagerweij , Quark’s president. “We are pleased to offer such an exciting and exclusive adventure option on our trips”.
Quark notes that the balloon experience took place just south of the North Pole, as wind and ice conditions made it impossible to perform the excursion directly over the pole. The balloon, which was tethered, took one hour to set up, and four passengers were taken up at a time for periods of approximately five minutes.
Quark will continue to offer its unique ballooning feature on its North Pole voyages, and has confirmed dates for the next four Arctic seasons: 20 June, 1 July 2013; 20 June, 1 July 2014; 20 June, 1 July 2015 and 22 June and 3 July 2016.
