Royal Caribbean has confirmed that it will sell one of its cruise ships.

The company has entered into an agreement to sell Splendour of the Seas to TUI Cruises in the second quarter of 2016. The ship will then be leased to Thomson Cruises, which will operate the vessel.

“Splendour of the Seas debuted in 1996 and has served Royal Caribbean International extremely well,” said Richard D. Fain, Royal Caribbean’s chairman & CEO. “The ship’s sale is in line with our strategic objective of divesting ourselves of older hardware.”

The company confirmed that Splendour of the Seas will complete all its scheduled deployments, and that no sailings will be altered or disrupted due to the sale. Its final voyage will commence on 4 April 2016.

Splendour of the Seas has operated under the Royal Caribbean brand since it entered service in 1996. The 69,130-tonne ship is able to carry a total of 1,830 passengers and 760 crew.
