Singapore-based low-cost carrier Scoot is planning to launch its first flights to India.
In an interview with the Economic Times this week, Scoot’s country manager for India, Bharath Mahadevan, confirmed that flights will start by the end of this month, and that he is looking at more than one Indian destination.
“We are just waiting for the final approval,” Mahadevan told the Indian newspaper. “We will start with a metro and non-metro destination in the north and a metro in the south of India.”
Any new route would be operated from Scoot’s home base in Singapore using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Scoot is the only airline in the world to operate an all-Dreamliner fleet, with its 335-seat B787-8s and 375-seat B787-9s. Both aircraft types come equipped with two cabins – economy class and ScootBiz, the airline’s premium economy-style product.
The arrival of Scoot in India will mean that all five of the Singapore Airlines Group’ carriers will be operational in the country, including Singapore Airlines, SilkAir, Tigerair, Scoot and Delhi-based Vistara.
