Sentosa, which operates luxury residential and resort properties in Bali, is planning to move into the hotel market with the launch of up to 30 hotels in Indonesia, the company’s CEO has revealed.

Speaking to Travel Daily this week, Ian Duffell revealed that the new Sentosa Studios brand will be rolled-out progressively over the next eight years, initially with two properties in Bali and Jakarta.

The new brand, which is being developed in conjunction with Indonesia-based developer, the Bahama Group, will target both international and domestic tourists, offering three- to four-star boutique-style hotels in key destinations across Indonesia. But despite the mid-range nature of the hotels, Duffell said all properties will incorporate luxury aspects of Sentosa’s Bali resorts.

“We plan to add many of the quality aspects we have in Sentosa Seminyak and Sea Sentosa, as well as putting in as much technology as possible. It will be a five-star product at three- to four-star prices,” Duffell said in a telephone interview from Sydney. He added that the new brand will be targeted at younger travellers.

In addition to the Sentosa Studios brand, Duffell revealed that the company is planning to launch a new serviced residence property in Jakarta. The Sentosa Signature Residence, which is also being developed with the Bahama Group, will offer 600 serviced apartments in a brand new mixed-use tower in the Indonesian capital. Opening is expected in 2014.

Sentosa currently operates the luxury Sentosa Private Villas & Spa in the Seminyak area of Bali, and will shortly open another high-end resort development, Sea Sentosa at Echo Beach Canggu.
