Shanghai and Jakarta have more new hotel rooms under construction than any other cities in the Asia Pacific region.
According to the latest data from STR, there are now 36 hotels comprising 9,177 rooms being developed in Shanghai, and 27 properties with 7,123 rooms under construction in Jakarta.
The strength of the Chinese and Indonesian markets is underscored by the fact that the next two largest pipelines are in Chengdu (25 hotels with 6,526 rooms) and Bali (30 hotels with 5,209 rooms).
In total, there are now 1,042 hotels under construction across the Asia Pacific region, comprising 255,525 rooms, although this does mark a slight 0.6% decline compared to this time last year.
