SIA signs Virgin Australia, Aegean codeshares

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has expanded its network with new codesharing deals with Virgin Australia and Aegean Airlines.
The airline has enhanced its partnership with Virgin Australia to cover more destinations in Australia, Asia, Europe and the UK, while also agreeing a deal with its Greek Star Alliance partner, Aegean Airlines.
The new deal with Virgin Australia will see SIA codeshare to every single one of the Australian carrier’s 32 domestic destinations, as well as on trans-Tasman routes to the New Zealand cities of Dunedin, Queenstown and Wellington. Then in 2013, the Virgin Australia codeshare will be expanded to cover SIA’s connections from Australia to Europe, the UK and additional cities in Asia, via SIA’s hub at Changi airport. In total, Virgin Australia will have access to 64 destinations in Asia and 12 in Europe.
“This codeshare expansion is a major step forward in our deepening partnership. With more cities covered, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia can together offer even better connections for our customers between Singapore and Australia,” said SIA’s Executive Vice President of Commercial, Mak Swee Wah.
The Aegean codeshare meanwhile, will enable SIA to add its code to the Greek airline’s flights connecting Athens with Frankfurt, London, Milan and Munich, as well as from Thessaloniki from Frankfurt and Munich. In return, Aegean will add its code to SIA-operated flights serving Singapore from Frankfurt, Milan and Munich, as well as flights from Singapore to Melbourne and Sydney.
