Sustainable tourism expert Costas Christ will join Six Senses as the company’s new sustainability ambassador.
A pioneer of ecotourism, Christ helped to officially define the term as a founding member and former chairman of the International Ecotourism Society. He will now serve as an advisor to Six Senses’ recently-appointed the vice president of sustainability, Amber Marie Beard, and represent the company as its global spokesperson on sustainable tourism.
“We are at a new turning point as more travel businesses and destinations adopt sustainable tourism principles to help safeguard our planet and deliver tangible benefits to local communities,” commented Costas. “I look forward to supporting Six Senses in their commitment to advance these efforts.”
As former senior director for Conservation International, Costas supervised sustainable tourism projects supporting poverty alleviation and the protection of biodiversity across the globe. He was also appointed during the Clinton Administration to serve as Peace Corps country director in Uganda.
