Six Senses has reached two major milestones in its global expansion strategy, with the signing of its first urban hotel and its first property in the US.

The new Six Senses New York will join the luxury hotel group’s global portfolio as part of a development in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighbourhood, overlooking the Hudson River. The overall project, named ‘The Eleventh’, encompasses an entire block between 17th and 18th streets and features two towers, rising 90 and 120 metres from the street.

The Six Senses hotel will be spread across 10 floors of the east tower. It will feature 137 keys with a minimum size of 37m², plus a Six Senses Spa, two restaurants and meeting space.

The rest of the development will include 240 high-end residences and retail outlets.

“This project is a fascinating and exciting contrast to the typical Six Senses locations where we operate resorts in settings with azure waters, UNESCO heritage listings and lush rainforests,” said Six Senses’ CEO, Neil Jacobs.

“Six Senses New York will have the same touch-points and DNA, with some creative adaptation of course, but with no compromises on our commitment to community, wellness, sustainability and design.”

Six Senses New York, which is being developed by HFZ Capital Group, is scheduled to open in 2019.
