Shanghai-based Spring Airlines is planning to launch new services connecting Guangzhou with Japan.

The low-cost carrier has applied for permission to operate daily flights from Guangzhou to the Japanese cities of Osaka and Nagoya. If approved, the new routes will launch in October this year.

Currently, only China Southern Airlines flies between Guangzhou and the two Japanese cities. But with another five Airbus A320 aircraft joining its fleet in the second half of 2015, Spring Airlines is planning to expand its operations, with Japan seen as a key market.

Spring already connects Nagoya with six Chinese cities, and flies to Osaka from 10 Chinese hubs.
