Star Cruises has confirmed that its SuperStar Virgo cruise ship will start homeporting in Shenzhen this year.
Following a recent agreement signed between Star’s parent company, Genting Hong Kong, and the developers of the new Shenzhen Tai Zi Bay cruise terminal, SuperStar Virgo will start operating a series of cruises from the southern Chinese city in November 2016.
The three-month deployment will see the vessel undertake four- and five-night cruises to Sanya, Halong Bay, Danang and Nha Trang, and seven-night voyages to all the aforementioned destinations plus Ho Chi Minh City.
“Our flagship, SuperStar Virgo, will be deployed to its brand new homeport at Tai Zi Bay, Shekou, Shenzhen in November,” confirmed Mr Ang Moo Lim, president of Star Cruises.
“Tai Zi Bay is located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau big bay, which enjoys excellent geographical advantages and allows travellers from the Pearl River Delta and the southwest area to cruise from a convenient location, while travellers from other regions can also enjoy cruise traveling at ease with accessible and comprehensive transportation services.”
Shenzhen’s Tai Zi Bay cruise terminal will become the only port in China capable of accommodating the world’s largest cruise ships – Royal Caribbean’s 220,000-gross tonne Oasis class – when it opens in November.
