Virgin Atlantic has confirmed it will reintroduce flights from London Gatwick to Tobago next year.
Flights will operate weekly between March and October and then twice weekly from October to March, with a stop in St Lucia.
The summer flight will depart Gatwick on Sunday mornings with an overnight return service from Sunday evenings. Its winter services will depart Gatwick on Tuesday and Saturday mornings and leave Tobago in the evening of the same days.
The airline previously dropped its flights to the southern Caribbean island in March 2014.
“The Caribbean has long been at the heart of our leisure operation and we’re really excited to be offering our customers flights to beautiful Tobago once again,” said Joe Thompson, director of network and alliances at Virgin Atlantic. “We are always looking for opportunities to grow our network and provide our customers with even more travel options and with other operators withdrawing from this route, we believe our new services will be very popular with British holidaymakers.”
The airline’s tour operator arm Virgin Holidays has seen sales to the Caribbean increase nearly a quart year-on-year and has already seen positive sales for Tobago. It now projects double-digit growth for the island.
Last week rival British Airways announced increased services to Tobago.
