Travel search engine momondo.co.uk recently conducted a global travel survey revealing preferred holiday habits.Momondo

The company asked 23,149 people from 23 countries and analysed more than 400 million searches made on its site.

The findings revealed the ‘most wanted holiday’ for 2017.

“By asking people from all over the world, we have found out some interesting facts about the holiday most people search for. Worldwide, for instance, 66% prefer travelling with their partner, whereas just 43% would rather spend their holiday with friends”, says Neil James Cartwright, spokesperson for momondo.

He continued:

“Furthermore, we can’t get enough of freshly made beds and pre-fluffed pillows, as 57% of us choose hotels over any other kind of accommodation.”

People also like to share holiday memories and discoveries gathered while exploring the destination. More than a quarter of us share photos from our holiday on social media while we are away.

The company found 35% of people globally prefer to save money on shopping in connection with the holiday, whereas only 17% are willing to save money on exploring the destinations via sightseeing and excursions.

The data also showed most people book flights 69 days in advance and price is the deciding factor when it comes to what ticket is booked.

It is the same case when choosing hotels, as 55% list price as the most important factor. When it comes to accommodation, hotels booked in our home country is done 22 days before the trip, whereas hotels abroad are booked 44 days in advance.

The gap between the flight and hotel bookings is spent researching the right hotel; 33% find good user reviews to have the highest priority when deciding on the hotel and for 42%, star rating is seen as an important criteria.

Besides the global statistics, momondo also looked into the most sought after destination among Brits. And the most wanted holiday 2017 calls for exotic Eastern destinations.

“Bangkok remains the most searched destination among Brits as this city with its stable warm weather, electrifying city life and restaurant meals, which on average cost 91% less than in London, make it great for a holiday throughout the year. For travels in 2017 however, another eastern destination is on the rise; Bali. With a 191% increase in searches this year compared to 2016, the tropical Indonesian island seems to have caught the interest among Brits. Bali is clearly the destination trending the most among the 50 most searched”, said Cartwright.
