Travellers would be willing to pay extra to ensure a problem-free holiday, a new study has found.
Monograms, a travel company that forms part of the Globus group, has unveiled the results of its global ‘New Traveling Better’ survey, which questioned 1,168 travellers about what causes them stress when on holiday.
Unsurprisingly, travelling internationally is considered more stressful (by 63% of travellers) than domestic getaways. And the biggest headache suffered by travellers is transport; 38% of travellers said that finding transportation at the airport, and getting around a destination, was their main cause of holiday stress.
A further 30% cited hotels (either poor quality or in bad locations) as a major problem, while other stress factors included language barriers (21%) and getting lost (11%).
And interestingly, the vast majority of survey respondents (85%) said they would be willing to pay extra to have less holiday stress. In fact, more than half (52%) said they would invest US$500 or more to encounter fewer hassles while travelling.
Conversely, the joy of travelling can be enhanced by several factors, according to the survey. These include centrally located hotels (identified by 41% of respondents), easy, pre-planned transportation (27%), the help of a local expert (17%) and front-of-line access to attractions (16%).
“Traveling the world can be an amazing – and even better – an exciting and memorable experience! It should be,” said Steve Born, vice president of marketing for the Globus family of brands. “You just have to know how to do it right.”
