TUI orders two new cruise ships

TUI Group has ordered two brand new expedition cruise ships, to be operated by Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.
Scheduled for launch in the spring and autumn 2019, the two new vessels will be built in Norway and will be able to cruise in the Arctic and Antarctic, as well as in warm water destinations such as the Amazon.
Onboard Zodiac boats will allow passengers to land in remote locations, and both ships will also provide a range of watersports equipment from onboard “marinas”. The new luxury vessels will be called ‘Europa’ and ‘Europa 2’. Financial details of order were not disclosed.
“The cruise business is one of the key elements of TUI’s growth strategy. Our ambitions are underpinned by our investment in the two new ships for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ luxury and expedition cruise segments serve as world-class benchmarks,” stated Sebastian Ebel of the TUI Group.
The ships will be identical, both measuring 138 metres long and 22 metres wide and accommodating up to 240 passengers in 120 cabins across seven decks. TUI said the vessels would have a “high ratio of balcony cabins”. Onboard facilities will include three restaurants, a spa and fitness area.
One of the vessels will be designed to serve the German-speaking market, while the other will be focused on the UK and other markets.
TUI Group currently operates a 14-strong cruise fleet covering its three cruise brands: Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, Thomson Cruises and TUI Cruises.
