United Airlines has continued its Asian expansion from San Francisco.
Following the recent launch of services connecting the Californian city with Taipei and plans to start services to Chengdu this summer, United has now said it intends to start direct services between San Francisco and Tokyo Haneda Airport.
Scheduled to commence on 26 October 2014, flights will operate daily using a 269-seat Boeing 777 aircraft. Services will depart San Francisco International Airport daily at 1835, arriving in Tokyo at 2205 the following day. The return leg will then leave Haneda Airport at 0005, arriving back into San Francisco at 1715, having crossed the International Date Line.
“We are excited about adding Haneda Airport to our global route network,” said Jim Compton, United’s vice chairman & chief revenue officer. “By providing nonstop service from our San Francisco hub to both Tokyo airports, we will maximise choice and convenience for customers travelling from across the Americas to Tokyo, and to points beyond on our joint-venture partner ANA.”
Haneda Airport will be the 10th trans-Pacific destination that United serves direct from San Francisco. A new route to Taipei launched last month, while direct services to Chengdu will start in June 2014. United also recently added a second daily flight on its San Francisco-Tokyo Narita route.
