United relaunches Dreamliner
United Airlines welcomed its Boeing 787 Dreamliner back into service on Monday on a domestic flight from Houston.
The departure from Houston to Chicago O’Hare marked the return of United’s Dreamliner to service for the first time since January 2013, when the global B787 fleet was grounded due to safety concerns.
“The 787 offers an unmatched travel experience for our customers and co-workers, and we are thrilled to be flying it again,” said Jeff Smisek, United’s chairman, president & CEO. “This is an exciting time at United. Our investment in the Dreamliner is just one more example of our commitment to delivering the best product, route network and customer service in the industry.”
United will operate additional Dreamliner flights on domestic routes from Houston this week, with international B787 due to commence on the Denver-Tokyo Narita route on 10 June 2013. This summer United also plans to operate its B787s on several existing long-haul routes, including Houston-London, Los Angeles-Tokyo, Los Angeles-Shanghai and Houston-Lagos.
