United Airlines has taken delivery of its first ever Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
The brand new long-haul jet was delivered straight from the Boeing factory in Washington state, marking the first of 14 B777-300ERs ordered by the airline. All of these aircraft will come equipped with 366 seats in three classes, including 60 in the new Polaris business class, 102 in premium economy and 204 in economy.
The new jet is scheduled to enter service in February 2017, flying between Newark and San Francisco. It will then enter international service on the San Francisco-Hong Kong route on 25 March 2017, replacing the B747-400 currently being used on the route.
United is already one of the largest operators of the smaller B777-200 series in the world, with almost 75 aircraft in operation. The new B777-300ERs form part of a major long-haul fleet renewal plan which also includes the Airbus A350 and all three versions of Boeing’s Dreamliner series, the B787-8, B787-9 and B787-10.
