Universal Studios is planning to develop its first theme park in China.
Xinhua reported this week that the Hollywood film studio is planning to launch its movie-themed attraction in the Tongzhou district of Beijing.
Construction work on the new theme park is expected to commence before the end of this year, with the attraction due to open in 2018. The development will cover approximately 206,000m² and will cost CNY12 billion (US$2bn) to build.
Once complete, it will become the third Universal Studios theme park in Asia, following existing locations in Singapore and Japan.
