US Airways adopts American livery

The first US Airways aircraft to operate in American Airlines’ colours has taken to the skies.
The Airbus A319 originally flew in the US Airways livery, but has now been repainted in the new American colours following the recent completion of the merger between the two carriers. The repainted single-aisle jet has now been returned to US Airways and re-entered service on a flight from Charlotte to New York’s LaGuardia Airport.
“Today marks an important next step in our airlines’ integration and is a tangible way for customers and employees to see the result of our progress first hand,” said American’s president, Scott Kirby.
“The integration of our airlines, including painting the rest of the US Airways fleet, will take many months as we work to deliver value through this merger for our employees, our customers and our investors.”
The merged airline will now roll-out the new livery to its entire fleet of aircraft over the next few years. Approximately 640 aircraft are in line to receive the makeover, with 275 expected to have been completed by the end of second quarter of 2014. All new US Airways aircraft delivered from June 2014 onwards will be adorned in the new colours.
Elsewhere, the airlines are gradually aligning their products across all areas of the business. American recently selected a new Sabre reservations system and the carriers are coordinating their flight schedules through a series of codesharing arrangements.
