Virgin Australia launches 1.7M fares sale on the network
Virgin Australia has launched over one million new discount fares across dozens of domestic and international destinations in advance of easing border restrictions and the approaching summer holidays.
The airline announced that with 1.7 million fares on sale, this is its biggest sale ever, with domestic fares starting at $49 one-way and international fares starting at $229.
One-way tickets between Sydney and Fiji will start at $229, Melbourne and Bali at $279, and Brisbane and Queenstown at $287.
Domestic flights between Coffs Harbour and Sydney start at $49, while flights from Sydney to Byron Bay cost $55.
Flights between Melbourne and the Gold Coast start at $89 one way, while Virgin Australia’s new direct flights between Adelaide and Launceston start at $85 one way.
The sale will begin on Monday and will expire at midnight AEST on the 1st of November, 2021.
Dave Emerson, the chief commercial officer of Virgin Australia Group, said the airline was looking forward to launching one of its most extensive sales campaigns ahead of the holiday travel season.
“There has never been a better time for Australians to travel, and Virgin Australia is happy to assist them in doing so”, according to Emerson.
According to the airline’s CEO, there are 1.7 million seats available from just $49, making it one of the most significant sales in Virgin Australia history.
With some of the best value airfares in the market, a more extensive network of flights — including 12 new services launched in the last month — and world-class customer care, we’re making it impossible for Australians to resist returning to the skies this summer.
“Our fantastic team members and Virgin Australia have never been stronger or more ready to fly, and we can’t wait to welcome Australian travellers back on board as they start on new adventures this summer.”
A new agreement between Virgin and the Queensland government was unveiled last week to entice Queenslanders to spend time in their home state before the year ends.
Economy class fares will be available for as little as $75 one-way under the new partnership, connecting Brisbane with several popular tourist locations in Queensland, including Cairns and the Whitsunday Coast.
Unless sold out earlier, discounted fares are available for purchase until the end of October and for travel until the 12th of December 2021.
Virgin chief executive Jayne Hrdlicka announced last week that the airline would not need vaccines for its passengers on domestic flights. This week’s sales are in response to her statement.
Hrdlicka stated that the problem was a “matter for government” and that the airline would abide by any restrictions enacted by individual states.
The company had previously stated that COVID vaccinations would be required for all customer-facing personnel by the 15th of November and all office workers by the 31st of March.
Vaccinations will be required for all visitors to Australia starting on the 1st of November. The pricey hotel quarantine will no longer be needed for individuals who have been appropriately vaccinated against the coronavirus.
